Whether you need a break from your everyday routine or you just need a little more summer, traveling is the perfect solution. The one task that is awful to think about when traveling is packing. Regardless of how long you may procrastinate, the packing must get done if you want to have something to wear on your trip.
How do you get started? How do you know when you’re finished?
If you follow these tips, packing may become less of a chore and be a bit more fun!
It’s important to remember that you are not going to forget anything if you give yourself enough time to lay out what you want to bring. Taking your time and having patience is a must. I recommend a glass of wine and some tunes.
2. Check the weather of your destination.
You do not want to be in flip flops in the middle of a thunderstorm trying to find your way back to your hotel.
3. Start with undergarments.
Bring as many as you please, nothing is worse than realizing you have no underwear the first night of your trip. One or two swimsuits apply as well, depending on your destination.
4. Move on to pants.
Pack ONE pair of jeans, ONE pair of colored trousers, and ONE pair of your favorite pattern pants/shorts. This should be enough because you can wear the same pants and make your outfit look completely different. A great pair of jeans can go a long way. Of course, if you're vacationing for over a week, maybe pack more than one pair of pants.
5. Pick one or two dresses.
Maxi’s are my personal favorite! Anything easy enough to slip on and still look cute, yet light enough to barely take up space in your suitcase.
6. Go through some tops.
Pick a couple casual ones to wear for adventures and some to go out with at night.
It may even help to match shirts with the pants you chose and create outfits in advance.
7. Shoes are always tricky.
To make your life easier, choose 3 pairs. Sandals/flats, sneakers, and heels/wedges. If you’re a shoe lover, this might break your heart, but at least it’s not breaking your suitcase. Shoes tend to weigh the most. Avoid the $25 fee of an overweight suitcase and stick with one pair of heels for the trip.
8. Next come my favorite things in the world …accessories.
They are like the topping(s) of a cake. Glorify your outfit by picking out one statement necklace, some rings, a few earrings, and maybe a hat or two! If you are going to the beach, floppy hats are not only chic but can make you feel like Beyoncé.
9. You're going to need something to sleep in.
Before imagining your Beyoncé moment, don’t forget she woke up in PJ’s.
10. No matter what, consider everything you might encounter during vacation.
You are done when all of these things are checked off your list.
Make a note of what you need to grab before your flight. Stick a post-it on your mirror to make sure you don't forget your chargers, computer and plane tickets.
PS. Never forget to enjoy your vacation, one fabulous outfit at a time and of course, take pictures!
