Thanks to social media and its ability to bring inviting, decadent treats to my attention, my craving for delicious treats has grown significantly.
I find myself following hundreds of dessert artists who post daily creations. From donuts to cupcakes to popsicles, I literally can't get enough.
Out of all of these dreamy chefs, there is one in particular who stands out from the rest.
Goodies by Dani is a company founded by an old sleepaway camp friend. I started following her Instagram account a few months ago, intrigued by her creativity and inspirational sweets. As you can see, her baked goods are like no other. They are vibrant, fun and totally made for Instagram.
I had to ask Dani Goodman, the mastermind behind these desserts, what inspired her to start such a great company.
Scroll down to find out how she comes up with her designs, who she admires and why I had to feature her today on Soul in Stilettos.
DG: Hi guys! My name is Dani Goodman. I just moved back to my hometown of Dallas, TX after graduating from the University of Michigan (Go Blue). In my free time, I love baking and experimenting with different recipes for my family and friends, and posting all of it along the way on my Instagram, @goodiesbydani.
SIS: How did you start baking? What inspired you to turn this hobby into something more?
DG: I started baking when I was really young with my grandma and mom around the holidays, but it only recently became something in which I was really interested. During my senior year of college after nights out with my friends, I was always the first up, so I would bake for my 7 roommates until the aroma of my baking brought them downstairs. They were the ones who made me realize I might've inherited baking skills somewhere along the way. After I started posting some of my baking on my personal Instagram, the reaction from the friends and family was overwhelming. It drove me to create a separate account for my "goodies", so I did.
SIS: You are one of the most creative treat makers I have ever come across. What’s it like working with such yummy things every day?
DG: I taste the new recipes that I'm trying out, but once I have a recipe down I try to stay away from tasting everything I make.
DG: Well, I've had a few emails come through for orders in my area, but since most of my followers are outside of Texas and the majority of my goodies can't ship, it's been more about creating a community. I love seeing people talk with their friends on my post or plan their next baking experiment based off something I made.
SIS: You’re based in Dallas, Texas. What’s it like living there as such a creative individual?
DG: Dallas has so much art, culture, food and innovation it surprises a lot of people. It's been great to feel like I can experiment and be inspired by those doing awesome things around me.
SIS: Where do you find your inspiration? Who do you look up to?
DG: Kate Weiser is one of my greatest inspirations. She owns a chocolate shop in Dallas with some of the prettiest, tastiest chocolates I have ever seen (or eaten). She makes the most creative items by her rules and has a lot of fun along the way
SIS: Aside from baking, what else do you do?
DG: I work full time at an awesome digital marketing company called Speakeasy (who has a love/hate relationship with all of the sweets I bring to share with my co-workers). I love exploring Dallas, especially with my puppy by my side. There's something going on every weekend, it's hard to keep track of it all. Maybe not quite Miami exciting, but still very fun!
DG: I love baking birthday cakes for people. They'll tell me a few of their favorite things and I get to think of fun ways to make them work on a cake. Being able to see them so happy makes it even better
SIS: Any big plans for the future? I can only see Goodies by Dani growing into something huge!
DG: I don't have any plans for now besides to keep baking and learning along the way! It’s like therapy for me. Of course, one day I would love to open my own bakery or even go to baking and pastry school, but that would be down the road
SIS: Are you able to ship nation wide? If not, when in Dallas, how can we taste your amazing creations?
DG: Unfortunately, I am not shipping at the moment. If you're ever in Dallas, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for some sweets and some great Tex-Mex recommendations!
Be sure to follow Dani and her amazing creations on Instagram!
