LP: My name is Lauren Pelaez, born and raised in Miami, Florida. I’m an Artist and a Blogger, I own and run my own business, LP Originals. A place where you can order all things custom.
SIS: You are such a fun artist! What inspired you to start illustrating?
LP: Since I can remember, I’ve been painting, drawing and illustrating. I remember wining my first award in Elementary school. It wasn’t for perfect attendance or academic honor roll. It was an art award I had received and my work was displayed in a gallery. I was so excited! Me and my denim overalls and all.
SIS: Where do you find your inspiration? I love all of the fashion illustrations you do!
LP: Thank you so much! I actually went to AI Miami International School of Art and Design. I majored in Fashion Merchandising and received my BA last year. I love fashion and I love art, so bringing them together was bound to happen.
I love illustrating early in the morning. I’ll get up, make a large cup of coffee and illustrate Net-A-Porter’s top picks of the week.
SIS: Who are your role models when it comes to being creative?
LP: Their are new breeds of artists who are able to really be distinctive amongst the massive influence around them. I really try to make, or recreate something in my own style. Having a specific style is one of the most important aspects of being an artist. Some of the women and men I look up to are Aaron Favaloro, Navasy, Diary Sketches, Holly Nichols and Jason Brooks.
LP: Ahhh good ‘ol social media, where should I even begin! I’m able to share my work with the world in seconds. Can’t beat that! This also means, as an artist you need constantly to be working, practicing, creating new material. I love that it pushes me to get better and work harder. I have been able to open and run my own company because of social media. It’s brought me customers from NY, KA and TX.
SIS: Aside from drawing, what are your other favorite things to do?
LP: Well, I love creating content for my blog! The whole production, the hair, the makeup, the wardrobe. I have the most amazing, supportive friends and family who really help me do this! I think everyone in my family at one point has taken pictures for the blog- lol. My website just made 1year!! I’m so excited to take it to a whole other level this year!
SIS: What are your goals? Where do you see yourself in five years?
LP: The five year question… Well, in five years I see my brand all over the world! in large department stores and at your local boutiques. I just want to create, with my pieces, this super cute world for women!
SIS: Who is your dream collaborator? This could be a person, brand, etc.!
LP: This is a tough one..I would love to collaborate with anyone from Jeff Koons to Bando! I love and appreciate all kinds of art so working besides any artist is a privilege.
SIS: Last but not least – what pair of shoes do you LIVE in?!
LP: My go-to shoes are my Iriza nude pumps!
